This was never a Toll House.
On Short Bank Road# near its junction with Greatwood Avenue, is that the single story building now called," Old Toll House" and is listed by Historic England as such.
On the 1860's Ordinance Survey map it is clearly listed as a Spa, which it was originally built as such, by Dr. Dodgson, in the early 1800's. I pointed out this error to Historic England by making a comment on the listing. This comment, following further documentary information being supplied to them, is now permanently attached to the listing.
Historic England's last email to me:
Thank you again for your Missing Pieces entry and for taking the time to add your information to the National Heritage List for England (NHLE). This is much appreciated, and will mean that anyone who looks up the List entry for the Toll House will now have access to your research.
Unfortunately, we are unable to carry out an amendment of the List entry for the Toll House at this time. In order for Historic England to re-assess the history and architecture of a listed building we would need to carry out a full amendment assessment, and we would only take forward an application to do this where there is a strong case that it would better inform its future management, such as if an owner was considering works.
