The swimming pool was opened in the summer of 1964 by Anita Lonsborough. I was a pupil at Christ Church School (in my last year) and my name was drawn from a ballot as one of two pupils who represent the school at the opening ceremony. I was very upset when I had to turn the invitation down because my family would be away that particular week.
